English - Reading

Reading is one of the core learning areas at Riverside Education Support Centre, with a strong emphasis placed upon reading instruction throughout the school. Reading is vital for success in life and at our school every effort is made to incorporate this subject into all learning activities.

Nine classrooms allow for greater individual attention across all ages, where students read every day to members of staff. Parents are encouraged to support their child’s literacy development at home, by assisting with a home reading program.

The school has purchased the Diana Rigg reading resources and the scope and sequence chart for phonics teaching provides an excellent starting point after students have achieved learning the sounds and names of the alphabet.
